RSS feeds for the Dunedin City Council
RSS is a way of providing content or summaries of web content in a simple format. The RSS file, or "feed", contains a headline, a summary, or the full text from the website.

The following RSS feeds are currently available on the Council website:
Factline (fortnightly newsletter from the Chief Executive)
Emergency News (only activated in a Civil Defence emergency)
Subscribing to an RSS feed
You need to subscribe to an RSS feeds and store them in an intermediary page set up inside a "feed reader" or "aggregator". The first step is to choose an aggregator. There are many free web-based aggregators. Some are built into a web browser, some are web-based while others require software. Here is a selection of some of the more common readers.
Built into a browser
- Firefox has a built-in reader called "Live bookmarks"
- Internet Explorer 7 offers a similar feature called "Feed Reader"
- Internet Explorer 6 has no built-in reader

Once you have selected your aggregator or reader, you need to locate the feeds you wish to subscribe to.

. The feed information is sometimes displayed as a page of XML code. Don't worry. All you need to do is cut and paste the address of the page into your reader or aggregator.
