New Zealand Masters Games
The Masters Games is an international multi-sport event that offers 'mature-aged' participants an opportunity to interact with each other in a range of sporting and social activities.
The first New Zealand Masters Games were held in Wanganui in 1989 and they have been held annually since 1991, alternating between Wanganui in the North Island and Dunedin in the South Island.
The Masters Games' philosophy is one of participation with competition being important but not all-important. Entry is open to all, no matter what level of ability or skill and without any requirement to be registered as a member of a sporting organisation.
No other form of sporting event attracts such a diverse range of people from all nationalities and walks of life. The Masters Games brings athletes together with the common purpose of enjoying their recreational pursuits in an atmosphere of universal friendship and camaraderie.
