Whare Flat Folk Festival
Whare Flat Folk Festival is held each new year from 30 December to 2 January inclusive (with pack-up and in-town session on 3 January).
The Whare Flat Festival is unique, as anyone who's been will attest. It's a small, intimate, interactive gathering of international, national and local guests all mixed up with festival-goers from around New Zealand and the world with an accent on getting involved.
We provide as much opportunity as possible for your participation in workshops, performances and dance. Or, if you want to just sit back and take in the talent, there are concerts running all day and every evening.
The festival is held each year in the idyllic sylvan surroundings of the hills south of Dunedin at Waiora Scout Camp. The Whare Flat Festival is a self-catering, camping festival. What little accommodation there is is reserved for guests and crew. House-trucks, campervans and caravans are most welcome but there are no powered sites. Or you may decide to come and go daily - it's a 15 minute drive back to Dunedin or 10 minutes to Mosgiel.
