3rd Australasian Engineering Heritage Conference

The Conference is one of one of an annual series about Engineering Heritage in Australia and New Zealand and is only the 3rd to be held in New Zealand itself.

The aim of the Conferences is to tell more about engineers, engineering achievements and their impact on communities and people's lives as an area or region was developed.

A number of eminent keynote speakers have been arranged including:

Sir Neil Cossons (UK), industrial archaeologist and former Chairman of English Heritage.

Professor David Dolan, Professor of Cultural Heritage at Curtain University in Australia.

Wayne Johnson (Australia) a Sydney Harbour foreshore archaeologist

Euan McQueen (New Zealand), geographer and NZ railway heritage historian.

Robert McWilliam (UK), Editor of Volume 3 of ICE Biographical Dictionary of Civil Engineers.

Duncan Waterson (Australia), historian with particular interest in settlers, agriculture, railways and politics.

Over 30 presentations will be made over the two days of the Conference by a wide variety of speakers covering many aspects of Otago and New Zealand's engineering heritage.

A number of displays will be co-ordinated in conjunction with the Conference including poster papers on engineering heritage features and an exhibition of engineering and surveying instruments, calculators, computers, slide rules, and engineering measurement devices from the Dunottar Collection -  a unique opportunity to view a world class collection.
