Dunedin's cemeteries and crematorium
We administer 19 cemeteries and one crematorium in the Dunedin city area. The cemeteries range in size from tiny rural plots to the wide-open spaces of Anderson's Bay cemetery.
Cemeteries staff maintains the grass, shrubbery and bedding plants in all Dunedin's cemeteries. Please contact us if you notice:
- Grass, shrubbery or bedding plots in need of attendance
- A headstone has been knocked over
- Any vandalism or damage
- A sunken grave
The speed limit in all our cemeteries is 20km/hr. Vehicles are not allowed into Andersons Bay Cemetery, Southern Cemetery, Northern Cemetery or Green Park cemetery between the hours:
- 5.30pm - 8.00am from April - September
- 7.30pm - 7.30am from October - March
Vehicles are not allowed in any of the other DCC cemeteries between sunset and sunrise.
Animals are not permitted in any DCC cemeteries.
All our cemeteries and the crematorium are administered in accordance with the Burial and Cremation Act 1964.
