Hours and charges at the Chinese Garden

The  Dunedin Chinese Garden is open from 10 am to 5 pm, 7 days per week and 7pm to 9pm on Wednesdays.  Days of closure will generally mirror those of the Dunedin Public Art Gallery and the Otago Settlers Museum facilities.

Admission charges to the Dunedin Chinese Garden

Conducted tours of the Chinese Garden (approximately 1 hour) are available at  2.00 pm and other times by arrangement. $20.00

Private Function Facility

The Tower Block holds up to 17 people, ideal for small business meetings, product presentation or interviews. Catering service is available (not included in the hire).

Hire cost

  • $150 for half day (9am-1pm)
  • $200 for whole day (during opening hours)

Shop and Tea House

The souvenir shop is located at the sunny courtyard of the garden. Visitors will find a wide range of authentic Chinese souvenirs available for purchase including lanterns, chopsticks, fans, jewelery as well as traditional Chinese tea and light snacks.

Nearby the shop, there is also the Tea House, a building used by the Scholar to serve tea, dine and entertain his friends and guests - which is now popular with the garden's visitors enjoying their Chinese tea and dumplings.
