New City Development Manager to take up reins

A recognition of the link between the DCC's Planning Policy function and the role of the Council's Architecture & Urban Design unit has resulted in the appointment of a new manager to lead a merged team called City Development.

Dr Anna Johnson, who has previous experience working on resource consents at the DCC and is currently managing the Environmental Planning group at Opus International Consultants, will join the DCC as the new City Development Manager on 24 March.

Dr Johnson completed her PhD at Otago and worked in Australia for the Queensland Government as a community engagement specialist before returning to work for Opus in Dunedin.

"My work at Opus has included policy research on urban development planning, as well as leading a team of planners, landscape architects and urban designers, which is a neat fit with the new City Development Manager position at the DCC.

"I've lived in many places in the world but my family and I have made Dunedin our home because it is such a fantastic city.  I am really excited about having the opportunity to help provide direction to the city's development and to work with the two newly merged teams, several of whom I have had the pleasure to work with before."
