Sold out show starts busy year for Town Hall
A sold-out Billy Connelly show will kick off a busy year for the Town Hall, says Dunedin Centre Manager Svend Tolson.
"Nearly 3000 people are booked to see Billy Connelly on 4 February. The Town Hall is a big venue and on average we may only have two or three sold out shows a year so it's great to start the year on such a positive note.
"Over the next few months we've got a lot more variety of shows on offer than usual and there could well be some more sold out shows in this line up. Next up is the Last Night of the Proms on 27 February, followed by The Veronicas on 7 March, Jimmy Barnes on 8 March and Tutus on Tour with the Royal NZ Ballet on 18 March. And Hayley Westenra is playing on 6 May - and that promises to be really popular"
Mr Tolson says 2009 will be "business as usual" for the Town Hall. However, next year will see construction work start for the Town Hall Redevelopment Project and this will, inevitably, have some impact on events at the Town Hall and Glenroy Auditorium.
"We'll be working to minimise the impact on users throughout the redevelopment. This is a great venue and a great asset for the city. It will be fantastic when the redevelopment work is completed and we can realise the full potential of these historic buildings," he says.
