SummerFun 2009

Summer Fun Festival image.SummerFun '09 kicks off on Saturday 24 January at 9.15am in the Octagon when Dunedin's own Rally New Zealand driver Emma Gilmour joins Mayor Peter Chin to start the 55th Dunedin to Brighton Veteran Car Club Run.

With a programme of over 30 events taking place from 24 January through until the end of February there is something for everyone.

Other community events throughout the Festival include Robbie Burn's birthday celebrations, Chinese New Year festivities, and those long-standing events that make Dunedin's Summer Festival the best celebration of summer in the country - the Octagon Timebuster (sponsored once again by the New Zealand Shop), Thieves Alley and Market Day, Trolley Darby, Octagonal Day, Southern Sinfonia Last Night of the Proms and the Ecumenical Festival of Flowers in Praise.

Take the kids along to the Crusty Demons, Outram Rodeo or the Brighton Fishing Champs. Pack a picnic, slap on some sunscreen and check out the Lions Lark in the Park and Festival of the Plain Party in the Park. Visit the flower shows and open gardens, Model Engineering Society exhibition or try your hand at petanque.

Check out the full SummerFun '09 programme, or pick up a copy from the Dunedin Visitor Centre or any Dunedin City Council Library or Service Centre.
