For They Are Jolly Good Fellows!

A New Year unfolds and a new birthday celebration for Robert Burns - this time, with a nod towards the living legacy of the Robert Burns' Fellowship.

Hosted at the Dunedin City Library over Monday lunchtime, Professor Liam McIlvanney, Stuart Professor of Scottish Studies at the University of Otago, and poet and current Burns Fellow, Michael Harlow, will entertain and inform library-goers as they talk about Burns and the Burns' Fellowship, before reading a selection of poetry from Michael's work, as well as a chosen poem or two from the bard himself.

Michael Harlow, whose tenure as the 2009 Burns' Fellow has given him the "untrammelled time and space" he has longed for, is sad to be leaving the University and happily agreed to be part of the new celebration before the end of his time there.

The initiative replaces the National Poetry Competition readings, formerly held in the Octagon each year, and Dunedin Public Libraries hope to grow the event for future years.

Date of event: Monday 25 January 2010
    Time of event: 12.30pm - 1.30pm
