Masters Games launched
The 21st Master's Games was launched on Tuesday night at the Glenroy Auditorium in Dunedin with official ambassadors Sir Colin Meads and Dick Tayler both saying they were looking forward to the event which is early next year.
Registrations are now open for the Games and, at the launch, Games Chairman John Bezett said up to 7000 competitors were expected.
It will be Tayler's fourth time as a Masters Games' ambassador and the Commonwealth Games gold medallist said he was looking forward to sharing the duties with Sir Colin.
Meads, who played 133 games, including 55 tests, for the All Blacks between 1957 and 1971, described the role as "an honour".
Both spoke at the launch and their enthusiasm and dry wit soon affected the audience with infectious laughter breaking out among many.
At the games the two will present medals and encourage competitors.
"I love helping at the Masters Games," Tayler said. "The competitors enjoy it and put so much passion into their sport."
