DPAG welcomes 200,000 visitor

Following the release of a report indicating that visitor numbers are well up again this quarter, the Dunedin Public Art Gallery was pleased to welcome its 200,000th visitor for the 2008/09 year.

The visitor, Carol Smith, was calling into the DPAG for a gift for a friend. She is a regular user of all aspects of the DPAG, coming in for film screenings, gifts, to listen to music, and, of course, the exhibitions. Ms Smith was greeted at the door by DPAG Director, Elizabeth Caldwell, and presented with a large bunch of flowers and a copy of 'Frances Hodgkins: femme du monde'.

While it is well documented that public spaces become increasingly popular during a recession, the DPAG attracts visitors by innovative programming, world class collections, a shop filled with beautiful and unusual gift items and friendly, helpful staff - whatever the economic climate.

Visitor numbers at the DPAG are monitored electronically and do not include customers from Nova Cafe. DPAG Marketing Team Leader, Tim Pollock comments, "The machine is audited yearly to ensure the formula we have applied is working or if it needs to be tweaked. It averages a 99.8% accuracy level."
