State of the City coming to your letterbox

Keep an eye on your letterbox over the next few days - City Talk will be arriving accompanied by two other important documents.

The Draft Community Plan Summary and the State of the City will provide you with information you need to make an informed contribution to the Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP) for 2009/10 - 2018/19.

The State of the City outlines some of the key outcomes and priorities identified in last year's plan by measuring what we've done against what we said we'd do. The indicators are derived from a variety of sources, including Residents Opinion Surveys, Statistics New Zealand, Ministry of Health, and Business and Economic Research Ltd. They provide hard data and evidence reflecting trends in our city.

The Draft Community Plan Summary (DCPS) describes some of the 'big ticket' projects and issues in our city as well as giving a snapshot of our financial situation and the strategies and projects related to the seven community outcomes. You will find a submission form on the back page, along with a breakdown of where your rates dollars actually go.

The DCPS is a statutory document - we are obliged by law to give you this information. The State of the City is not. We have published it in the hope that it will encourage more people to engage in the consultation process. It is important to us that we make decisions based on what our community actually wants. We want our residents to take part in an informed debate about the direction our decision-makers should take.

We invite you to take the time to read all three documents and discuss the information within. See you at the DCC Expo on 27-28 March at the Dunedin Town Hall and have your say!

A fuller version of the State of the City is available on our website at City Indicators.
