Dunedin Businesses To Host VIP Clients

Dunedin businesses are being encouraged to host their VIP clients from out of town courtesy of $500 flight vouchers offered by the Dunedin City Council's Economic Development Unit and a package of Dunedin "hospitality deals" from local tourism operators.

The manager of the Economic Development Unit, Peter Harris, said his team wanted to encourage businesses to meet their customers face-to-face. "We offered flight vouchers earlier in the year for local business people to travel to see their clients and they were snapped up very smartly, so now we're helping by encouraging them to host them here" he said. Not only will the successful applicants get one of the 20 flight vouchers on offer but they will be able to access deals ranging from free accommodation and meals to great discounts and "two for one" deals on entry fees to local attractions.

Mr Harris has been thrilled with the response from the visitor industry, "It is great that these people are willing to support other local businesses. We hope the VIP clients will leave not only with a great impression of their customer's business, but fond memories of the hospitality of Dunedin".

The project offers businesses 20 vouchers by answering three simple online questions -

  1. Who do you want to see and how important are they to you?
  2. What do you hope to achieve?
  3. When did they last visit your business?

John Bezett, Chair of the Economic Development Committee, supports the programme. "This is a new twist on the traditional way we support business through the Marketing Support Programme", he said, "and if it helps secure some orders then that helps retain jobs for the city."
