Do you need consent
If you are planning a project that involves demolishing, constructing, or altering a building, it is likely you will need some form of consent before you proceed. You will find details here.
Exemptions - Changes to the Building Act
Since 16 October 2008, changes to Schedule One of Building Act 2004 mean the number of building projects that do not require Building Consent has increased.
If you have questions about the exemptions contained in Schedule One, check the guidelines on the Department of Building and Housing's website.
Before you begin
Check to see if your proposed building work complies with the requirements of the District Plan, or is already provided for by an existing Resource Consent. If it isn't, you may need to apply for Resource Consent. Do this by contacting the Planning Department.
