Business development and support
The jobs and wealth that business creates is a vital part of what makes Dunedin a great place to live. In recognition of this, the Dunedin City Council has a dedicated Economic Development Unit (EDU). We are a well-qualified team who have worked in business both in New Zealand and overseas.
Dunedin IT Wave Going Against the Tide
The Dunedin IT Wave directory highlights some of the high-tech companies that choose to call Dunedin home. This is the second edition done by the Dunedin ICT Business Cluster, the last being in 2007. Over the last couple of years there has been a shift in the profile of the businesses with more IT companies coming on board in the City despite the difficulties faced by many businesses in the current surge of economic challenges.
The Dunedin ICT Cluster includes niche businesses offering solutions to a range of industries including health, sports performance, physiology, finance, agritech, gaming, film, 3D, education, GPS and data telemetry, software development, database management, web development, e-learning and e-commerce.
Technology companies in Dunedin are supported by the Dunedin City Council's Economic Development Unit, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and the UPSTART Business Incubator.
If you are interested in any of the companies listed feel free to contact any of them directly. If you would like more information about the ICT cluster or the industry in general contact the Economic Development Unit on 477 4000.

Research Support Fund 'trendsetting'
We have won an award from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) for our Research Support Fund.
The Fund was entered in the 'Multi-Year Economic Development Program by organisations serving areas with populations between 50,000 and 200,000' category. EDC Chair made the comment "With the award, we laud trendsetting organisations like the Dunedin City Council Economic Development Unit for leading the charge."
The Research Support Fund helps with delivering grant funding to Dunedin City research and development teams and businesses. This is achieved by R&D practitioners using the fund to buy services aimed at lifting the quality of grant applications to reputable funding agencies. The Council has invested approximately $80,000 in this program, which has attracted $17 million to our local economy.
The award was presented at the IEDC's annual conference in Atlanta, Georgia in October 2008.
