Current economic development projects
As well as working with businesses and industries we also undertake projects that have a wider benefit. Examples of our current projects include:
Oil and Gas
We are working with the oil and gas industry to help secure work for Dunedin businesses from the current exploration in the Great South Basin. Contact Des Adamson 474 3785
Broadband
We are working with Delta and other interested parties to encourage faster, cheaper, more affordable broadband for Dunedin and Otago businesses and other organisations.

Kitchenlink
Kitchenlink is a free "match-making" service for commercial kitchens. We find commercial kitchens that are available to hire and link these to people who are:
- Starting a business making food products
- Testing new menus or product ideas
- Training staff off-site
So whether you have a commercial kitchen that is under-utilised, or want to grow your food business but are hampered by a lack of space or equipment - Kitchenlink can help.

Technology Precinct Finds Favour
In September 2009, the University of Otago and the Economic Development Unit were keen to find out whether developing a technology ???precinct???, located between the Octagon and Jetty Street, would assist businesses to collaborate and promote themselves and help attract and retain staff, customers and investment. We contacted over 100 food and beverage businesses, 200 property owners and 45 technology companies to seek their opinion on whether a technology precinct in this area was of value. Results showed that 96% of property owners and 70% of technology companies were in favour of a precinct. These encouraging results show a positive response.
The Council is responding by:
- meeting with key property owners of heritage buildings in the area to explore how some of the issues raised could be overcome.
- actively working with individual heritage building owners to encourage redevelopment, including offering rates discounts for approved developments
- considering this research in a CBD strategy being developed by the City Development department
- exploring how the "precinct" could brand itself in a cost effective way
