Graffiti - What are we doing about it?
We are committed to managing graffiti in our city. We try to remove graffiti within 24 hours where possible particularly if it is offensive (including foul or racist language). Details of the graffiti are also reported to the police.
As part of our CPTED strategy, Keep Dunedin Beautiful has commissioned a number of murals in locations that have been prone to graffiti damage over the past two to three years. Research has shown that where there are murals painted by artists with 'street cred', taggers are less likely to deface the area.
If you see someone tagging...
Please call 111 and report it immediately to the Police. Get as many facts as you can that will help the Police locate the tagger, including:
- Physical description of the offender
- Description of the graffiti
- Vehicle number plates and descriptions
If you find graffiti on your own private property, contact your local Police station. To find your nearest station, check the blue pages in your phone book or the Police website (opens in a new window).
