Dunedin Multi-Ethnic Council
The Dunedin Multi-Ethnic Council was formed in 1993 and is "The voice of ethnic groups in Dunedin".
Our objectives include:
- Supporting and promoting the rights and responsibilities of ethnic individuals and groups
- Promoting joint action and cooperation in Dunedin on areas of concern
- Enabling ethnic groups to express their commitment and pride in New Zealand while still protecting and sharing their ethnic heritage and identity.
- Promoting goodwill, tolerance and understanding among people of all cultures in Dunedin
Some of our activities include:
- Monthly social gatherings to exchange cultures and to meet and get to know people
- Opportunities to learn new skills, network and create links with the wider community
- Working on projects such as Immigration, employment to assist migrants, refugees and others
- An annual Race Relations Festival to celebrate the ethnic diversity of Dunedin
- Monthly citizenship ceremonies
