Dunedin Multi-Ethnic Council

The Dunedin Multi-Ethnic Council was formed in 1993 and is "The voice of ethnic groups in Dunedin".

Our objectives include:

  • Supporting and promoting the rights and responsibilities of ethnic individuals and groups
  • Promoting joint action and cooperation in Dunedin on areas of concern
  • Enabling ethnic groups to express their commitment and pride in New Zealand while still protecting and sharing their ethnic heritage and identity.
  • Promoting goodwill, tolerance and understanding among people of all cultures in Dunedin

Some of our activities include:

  • Monthly social gatherings to exchange cultures and to meet and get to know people
  • Opportunities to learn new skills, network and create links with the wider community
  • Working on projects such as Immigration, employment to assist migrants, refugees and others
  • An annual Race Relations Festival to celebrate the ethnic diversity of Dunedin
  • Monthly citizenship ceremonies
