Legislation for Environmental Health
As a regulatory body, we have to comply with, and ensure Dunedin's businesses comply with, a wide variety of legislation.
Bylaws
We have created several bylaws under relevant legislation to protect, promote and improve public health in the Dunedin district.
Food safety bylaw (PDF, 60 kb) (opens in new window) - This bylaw is to make provision for all food workers employed in food premises in the Dunedin City area to have successfully completed a recognised course in food hygiene training. It also enables the Environmental Health Co-ordinator to close food premises where necessary and requires operators to display an inspection grade in a place visible to the public.
Skateboarding bylaw (PDF, 336 kb) (opens in new window) - This bylaw is to make provision for the control of the use of skateboards and similar wheeled devices on footpaths and in public places where a nuisance or injury may be caused to pedestrians or damage caused to property.
Beauticians, tattooist and piercers bylaw (PDF, 92 kb) (opens in new window) - The purpose of this bylaw is to prevent the transference of communicable diseases such as Hepatitis B and C, HIV/AIDS and bacterial skin infections via beautician practices, tattooing and skin piercing.
Mobile trading bylaw (PDF, 53 kb) (opens in new window) - No person may engage in mobile trading without first obtaining a Mobile Trading Licence under this bylaw. The holder of the licence shall observe the conditions recorded on the licence.
