We set building consent fees and charges annually through the Annual Plan process. They are indicative only.

If the cost of services provided in the building consent process exceeds the fee stated below, additional costs may be charged at the current hourly rate of $102.00.

All fees are payable in advance, when you apply for your building consent. The fee covers inspections and the provision of a code compliance certificate upon satisfactory completion of the work.

Other building consent fees

Flat Fees

A flat fee of $245 for building consent (including PIM), or $55 for a PIM only, applies for the following types of work:

• Space heaters
• Demolition (per building) *
• Marquees
• Signs & scaffolding
• Pole signs
• Verandah signs
• Swimming Pool Fences
• Fire alarm protection system (plus $95.00/hr)

* The Building Research Association New Zealand (BRANZ) and Department of Building and Housing (DBH) combined levy of $2.97 per $1,000 on values of $20,000 and over is to be paid in addition to the total fee. This includes the first $20,000.
