A welcome from Dunedin's Mayor

Peter Chin.It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the beautiful city of Dunedin.

We are a city proud of our heritage and our strong foundations in excellent education.

Dunedin is, geographically, the largest city in New Zealand. It stretches from rural farmland to the beautiful sandy coastlines of the Pacific.

Within its boundaries you will find a virtual treasure trove of both cultural and recreational opportunities, all within a short distance from your new home.

Dunedin prides itself on its diversity. The local area was first settled by Maori about 1650, with Scottish Presbyterian settlers laying down the foundations of the modern city you see today in 1848.

The gold rush of the 1860s brought first Chinese then Lebanese immigrants to the area, and since then Dunedin has become a city populated by people from all over the world.

We are richer as a community for this diversity and the variety it adds to our vibrant city.

It is with great personal pride that I welcome you to Dunedin.

I hope you enjoy living here and I urge you and your family to make the most of every opportunity you will find in the city.

Peter Chin, Mayor of Dunedin
