Rates relief for sporting and community organisations
We recognise and encourage sporting and community organisations whose activities benefit the community. For clubs that own or lease property (like a hall, clubhouse, gallery, sports field, marae or reserve), we may approve a rates relief grant.
The Community Initiatives Plan
The Community Initiatives Plan supports community initiatives and self-help projects. Funding distributed under the plan includes our community grants scheme as well as rates relief grants. Priority will be given to groups that:
- Clearly demonstrate that they are responding to a genuine community need
- Extend their facilities to the wider community and can verify the number of groups which use their facilities on an ongoing basis
- Are self-help and generate financial resources through their own means
How to apply
You need to fill out an application form. These are available from customer service agencies or from the community advisors on the sixth floor of the Civic Centre.
