Acceptance criteria A - C
Aluminum cans
These include soft drink, beer, and some pet food cans (no aluminum foil, food trays or kitchenware).
Batteries
Batteries - take all batteries including car batteries to the special waste section of the landfill.
Car bodies
Car bodies - when you bring your empty car body to the landfill, please make sure that you have removed all:
- Fuel and fuel tank caps
- LPG / CNG tanks
- Batteries
- Engine and transmission oil
- Seats, upholstery, glass and tyres
- Rubbish and organic material
Cleanfill
Cleanfill - this is natural materials such as clay, soil and rock and other such materials as concrete, brick, or demolition products. It must be free of combustible or organic materials and smaller than 75mm diameter. This material is used to cover the discharge face of the landfill or to construct earthwork bunds. Dry material is either used immediately or stock piled. Wet material is used in designated areas such as causeways or stock piled.
Clothing and reusable items
Clothing and all items in working order and suitable for reuse can be taken to the Recover Store.
Computers
Computers - if they do not work, place parts in the computer-recycling box provided at the Resource Recovery Centre. If they do work, please take them to the Recover Store for electrical checks.
Contaminated soil
This is soil contaminated by petroleum hydrocarbons such as petrol, oil or diesel. It needs special handling and must not be dumped alongside cleanfill.
Arrangements must be made for disposal by contacting the Landfill Engineer at 0800 4 DELTA (0800 433 582) at least five working days in advance of the proposed disposal. Contaminated soil can only be disposed of at Green Island Landfill.
Cover
Cover is clay, sand and soil, which is free of contaminants and other deleterious matter. It must be able to be spread in thin layers 100mm thick.
