The following items can be taken to Green Island Resource Recovery Centre, Transfer Station and Landfill for recycling or disposal.

Please refer to the Middlemarch, Sawyers Bay and Waikouaiti landfill pages for information on the waste that they can accept.

• Aluminum, batteries and car bodies
• Cardboard, cleanfill and clothing
  
• Computers, contaminated soil and cover
• Demolition material, fluorescent lights and garden vegetation
• Gas cylinders, glass bottles and jars and hazardous waste
• Metal, offal and paint
• Paper, plastic bottles #1 and #2 and reusable items
• Special waste (sludges and liquids), Steel food cans and tyres
• Used motor oil and whiteware

Special wastes, sludges and liquids

Special waste is any waste which, by its "?physical or chemical properties, requires special handling". This includes sludges, liquids, etc.

These are acceptable only at the Green Island Landfill if they are suitable for landfill disposal. You need to make arrangements at least five working days in advance. Contact the Landfill Engineer at 0800 4 DELTA (0800 433 582).

Steel food cans

These do not include paint tins, aerosols or other non-food steel cans.

Tyres

All types of tyres are accepted. Check at the booth for the used tyre site.

Used motor oil

This can be recycled at the Green Island Resource Recovery Centre.

Whiteware

Ensure that:

• Refrigerants are removed (contact a refrigeration outlet for this service)
• Whiteware is free of contaminants such as plastics, rubber, rubbish and organic materials
