About Dunedin's rubbish collection

Dunedin's rubbish collection is a user pays system. This is fairer for everyone as you only pay for what you throw out.

The DCC rubbish bag price includes collection and disposal. Combined with kerbside recycling, this system is the cheapest and most environmentally friendly currently available in Dunedin.

What to do to get your rubbish collected

• Put your rubbish in a DCC rubbish bag.
• Put your recycling in your blue bin.
• At the kerbside by 8am on collection day and not before 7pm the night before.
• Collection begins at 8am and can continue until 4:30pm on your collection day.
• Put it out on the footpath as close to the road edge as possible. Keep the footpath clear for pedestrians.
• If your rubbish/recycling is not collected, contact us.

Rubbish collection holidays

We do not collect rubbish on:

• Easter Friday - collection occurs the next day, on the Saturday of Easter
• Christmas Day (if it falls on a week day) - collection occurs on the following Saturday
• New Years Day (if it falls on a week day) - collection occurs on the following Saturday

Bad weather can affect collection

Snow, flooding and frost may delay collections. Your rubbish/recycling will be collected as soon as the contractor is able to reach the area. In some cases, collection may be postponed to the following Saturday.

Help for those unable to get rubbish out

We can arrange rubbish collection direct from your door for those who find it difficult to get their rubbish out to the street.

We can only provide this service for up to 50 people. You must be physically unable to get rubbish to footpath and priority is given to people with serious limitations such being permanently on crutches or in a wheelchair.

If you think you meet these criteria, contact us to discuss your needs. We are unable to guarantee that your application will be accepted but we may have other ideas.
