Temporary traffic management on Dunedin City Council's roads
At its September 2006 meeting, the Dunedin City Council formally adopted the Transit New Zealand Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management and the Local Road Supplement as the standards by which traffic and pedestrians are to be managed at work and other event sites on roads and streets within the city's jurisdiction.
Accordingly, as from 1 July 2007 any person or organisation carrying out work or other activities on Council roads will be required to comply with these procedures (subject to specific DCC variations), which includes the requirement for temporary traffic management plans that must be prepared by a qualified 'Site Traffic Management Supervisor' (STMS).
The qualification process is administered by Transit New Zealand, and contractors and other operators are reminded that it is their responsibility to be properly qualified.
Further information on the Code of Practice and the Local Road Supplement is available on Transit's and information relating to the specific Dunedin City Council requirements is available from the Council's Customer Services Agency ph 477 4000.
