School travel survey

It would appear that Dunedin Schools are doing well promoting active transport to school, as rates of children choosing active transport are remaining steady compared to the rest of New Zealand which is showing a decreasing trend.

Results

All 82 Ministry of Education Schools in Dunedin from Year 1-13 were invited to complete the Dunedin School Travel Survey. This survey was a "census" or "snapshot" type survey, which was carried out in the classroom during term one 2008. Teachers asked students to indicate, by show of hands, the main mode they used to travel to school that morning. 71 of the 82 schools completed the survey, giving an 87% response rate.

The school survey was carried out over a range of days from 19 February to 6 March with 80% schools completing on our preferred day of 20 February 2008.
