Permits for skips and containers on the road or the footpath

If you want to place a skip or container on a road or footpath, you may need a permit.

Criteria for obtaining a permit

If you are placing a skip or container on an arterial road or in the Central Business District area, you will need to apply for a permit. Your application will have to meet all the mandatory and discretionary rules.

If you want to place a skip or container on any other road, you must meet all the mandatory rules on the application form. If you meet these rules are met, you won't need a permit. If you cannot meet the mandatory rules, you will need a permit.

If you need a permit

Applications for containers should be made two weeks before proposed placement date.

Applications for skips should be made 48 hours before proposed placement date.

Applications for skips/containers to be placed on state highways must (in all cases) be made two weeks before placement. This allows us to consult with Transit NZ.
