E-day

Drive-through computer recycling event helps keep e-waste out of landfills

Electronic waste (e-waste) can seriously harm the environment, wildlife and human health when dumped in landfills. Landfilling e-waste is not a long term solution because it stores potentially toxic waste rather than allowing for recovery and reuse of valuable materials.

eDay is a simple, free and effective way to dispose of your household computer waste and old mobile phones in an environmentally sustainable way.

New Zealand’s second national eDay was held on Saturday 4 October 2008 in 30 centres throughout the country. A total of 16,607 cars dropped off over 87,000 items of e-waste, with a total weight of 946 tonnes (over fifty 40’containers). In 2008 Dunedin alone saw 959 cars deliver 3640 items, or 42 tonnes, of electronic equipment for recycling and we are expecting similar or greater volumes of e-waste collected during eDay 2009.

eDay in Dunedin will be held from 9.00am – 3.00pm on Saturday, September 12 at the OPR Fullcircle, 85 Fryatt Street.
