Middlemarch wastewater treatment plant

The Middlemarch oxidation ponds are about 800 metres east of the township.

Wastewater from the community of Middlemarch is reticulated to a pump station in Olive Avenue. The pipeline from the pump station to the oxidation ponds is laid along a ‘paper’ road easement. (Garthmyl Road).

Treated effluent passes through a wetland before being discharged into the bed of a dry oxbow of the Taieri River, downstream of the confluence with March Creek. Up to 360m3 per day of treated domestic effluent, at a rate of up to 4.1 litres second, is discharged into March Creek.
