Seacliff wastewater treatment plant
Seacliff has a small gravity fed sewage scheme that consists of two large septic tanks connected in series. They act as a two stage settlement process before effluent is transferred to one of two sand beds. After passing through one of the sand filters it is trickle irrigated over a vegetated area.
The biological sand filters have reinforced concrete walls and a clay base filled to a depth of 1.2m with graded sand filter media. The walls and base are lined with butynol rubber. At the base are a series of pipes that collect effluent and allow air to circulate back into the sand media, maintaining aerobic conditions.
