Getting around town

Convenience and accessibility are key attributes of Dunedin. It is an extremely easy city to navigate your way around in.

A special feature of the Dunedin lifestyle is the convenient location of facilities to those who use them. It is commonplace for a city worker to leave their place of employment and be home within fifteen minutes. Additionally schools, sporting facilities, supermarkets and shopping centres are located within easy travelling distance of the city centre.

Buses

Convenient, efficient and affordable public bus services operate from the city to all suburbs and outlying centres. Coach services run daily to other areas in Otago, as well as Canterbury and Southland.

Walking

The peaceful paths and walkways leading into the city through the Town Belt provide an enjoyable start to the day. The central city area is compact, meaning you will be able to fit a lot of sightseeing, dining and pleasure in a day's wandering.

Taxis

Dunedin's compact size means that a taxi fare from one stop on your itinerary to the next is affordable.

Driving

There are many car hire companies in Dunedin, with a range of vehicles to suit any traveller on any budget.

Dunedin has good inner city car parking, including outdoor car parks suitable for campervans.

On the weekend, a trip to a secluded beach or picnic spot takes minutes, not hours. Family vacations start sooner and last longer with travel time to snowfields, rainforests and national parks less than half a day.
