Independent travellers
Dunedin City welcomes and encourages independent travellers. If you are parking up or pitching a tent, please respect the unspoilt natural surroundings and stick to designated camping grounds.
Parking
Parking in the city for campervans includes the Dowling Street and Filleul Street car parks as well as parking at either end of the Railway Station. These pay and display car parks are only a few minutes walk to the i-Site Visitor Centre and there are many sites of interest on the way there.
Parking building height restrictions do not usually allow for campervans.
Food
Dunedin has several supermarkets within the city centre as well as at least one in most suburban areas.
The city has a rich cafe and restaurant scene and there will be something to suit your taste and budget within easy reach of your camping ground.
The dairies and convenience stores scattered around the city's streets will supply you with essentials such as bread and milk.
Camping grounds
There are ten camping grounds in and around the Dunedin area, as well as numerous waste disposal facilities and public toilets.
