Getting here by air

Dunedin International Airport Ltd, an easy half hour drive from the city centre, has won awards including the "Commercial Services" Category of the Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority Awards 2007 and 'Airport of the Year' 2006. North Taieri Aerodrome is also available for use by light aircraft.

Flights include:

  • International direct to and from Sydney and Brisbane
  • Domestic daily to and from Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Rotorua
  • Regular timetable flights to Alexandra and Queenstown
  • Sightseeing flights over Dunedin, Otago and Southland

Travel distances

As a guide, allow the following flying time when planning your schedules. Remember to add 90 minutes check in time if you are leaving Dunedin on an international flight, while 45minutes is acceptable for domestic connections. Time for luggage collection at the other end will vary.

  • Sydney - 3 hours
  • Brisbane - 3.25 hours
  • Christchurch - 40 minutes
  • Wellington - 1.25 hours
  • Auckland - 2.5 hours
  • Queenstown - 30 minutes

Getting to and from the city

  • Airport shuttles, seating around 8-10 people, cost from $25 per person for door-to-door service. This option is best booked the day before travel to ensure a seat is reserved for you.
  • Taxis cost approximately $80 to the city centre.
  • Your own vehicle can stay in the short and long-term security parking.
  • If joining a tour, check with your agent as the tour may provide an airport pick up/drop off service as part of the package.
