Getting here by sea

Port Chalmers is the small town fifteen minutes drive from the city centre, which services the Port of Otago. It plays host to numerous cruise ships that feature Dunedin as part of their New Zealand itinerary.

From here, bus and taxi services will bring weary sailors and not so weary cruise passengers into the very heart of Dunedin. A rail trip, arranged on the ship and provided by the historic Taieri Gorge Railway, will often meet cruise ships and take their passengers, through historic gold mining areas into the heartland of the Taieri Plains.

Customs and goods clearance are matters to consider when importing items into New Zealand. Some items are not permitted imports, while others will attract Goods and Services Tax or other government imposed charges.
