Experience Dunedin's wildlife

Dunedin has more than its share of rare and beautiful wildlife. You can while away hours watching penguins waddle, sea lions lounge and albatrosses soar. There are endless options for viewing wildlife, from harbour cruises to driving yourself or cross-country mountain bike tours. It is best to book tours to ensure the habitats are preserved.

Pre book with us!

If any of the options on these pages take your fancy, contact us as a lot of them require pre-booking.

Day One

  • A daylong Monarch Cruise will take you out to Taiaroa Heads. Your tour guide will describe the history, geography and local fauna.

Day Two

  • Set out early for a one-hour drive to the very tip of the Otago Peninsula. Book a tour so you can watch yellow-eyed penguins, fur seals and tiny blue penguins in their natural environment.
  • On your return, stop in Macandrew Bay for dinner. You will see glorious sunsets over the Otago Harbour while enjoying delicious food.

Day Three

  • For the more energetic, spend a morning on the Harbour in a sea kayak. You will get an unusual perspective of Dunedin's headland and wildlife.
  • After exploring Portobello, you can meet up with your guide for a land-based experience of the same wildlife.
