The percentage of Dunedin's population able to hold a conversation about "a lot of everyday things" in Maori has remained relatively static at around 2%.
The percentage of Dunedin's Maori population who are able to hold a conversation about "a lot of everyday things" in Maori was 17.2% out of a Maori population of 7362 in 2006. This is low in proportion to New Zealand as a whole (23.9%), Hamilton (26.1%), Hutt City (23.6%) and Christchurch (18.3%) but higher than Rodney (14.5%).
