New Zealand as a whole has shown a notable increase in the percentage of people with a degree or vocational qualification. Dunedin reflects this trend.

For tertiary qualifications, Dunedin had 36.6% compared with 37.4% across New Zealand and 35.8% for the 12 largest cities.
