Dunedin's rate of offences falls in the middle of the 12 largest cities in New Zealand. Auckland was the highest with 1390/10,000 and North Shore the lowest rate at 662/10,000.
The number of offences recorded in the Dunedin area has remained fairly constant at around 12,500-13,500 per year.
