The number of visitor nights in Dunedin has increased steadily from 655,980 in 2000 to 901,232 in 2007. Dunedin's growth rate is similar to the national average at around 7.5%.

Dunedin has retained its market share at around 2.8% of all total visitor guest nights in New Zealand.
