Councillor Neil Collins - South Dunedin Ward
Neil Collins ONZM, QSM was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the New Years Honours, 2009 for services to broadcasting, local government and the community. He was also awarded the Queens Service Medal in 1990 for services to the community and was given a Special Recognition Award for services to Broadcasting by his peers in March 2009.
Neil is a well known radio and television broadcaster in Dunedin and has hosted 8 Telethons and 14 radiothons in the Otago area. He is the author of several travel articles. A life member of the Otago Radio Association and former Patron of the Otago/Southland Camellia Society, he is also a trustee of Age Concern and a board member of the Fortune Theatre.
His interests include local government, music, rugby union, cricket and gardening. Councillor Collins was first elected to council in 1989.
