About this track

A great excursion to the top of Harbour Cone. A steep climb in places but the track provides an excellent reward to the intrepid hiker with panoramic views of the peninsula. From Bacon Street, follow the markers across farmland and up to Highcliff Road. Cross Highcliff Road and continue up to Coffee Rock for a well earned break before making the ascent to the summit of Harbour Cone. From the summit you can follow the markers down to Highcliff Road and then down a fence line for a quick return to the start of the trail.

Getting there

Access to the Hereweka- Harbour Cone trails is best from the Bacon Street end. From Dunedin, travel along Portobello Road and turn right down Bacon Street. Follow Bacon Street down to the car park at the end.

Know before you go

The summit of Harbour Cone is quite exposed. It is advised that you take a wind proof layer with you and footwear with good tread.
