About this track
The track starts at Sandymount carpark and soon turns into a sandy slalom all the way down to Sandfly Bay. As you progress down the track, eroded sand dunes give the track a mars/ lunar surface aesthetic. The surrounding scenery is equally impressive with clear views of the surrounding cliffs and Sandfly Bay. For those not keen on hiking back up the sand dune, Ridge Road Track provides an easier alternative.
Turn off Highcliff Road onto Sandymount Road. The track begins at the carpark/ picnic area at the end of the road.
Know before you go
The Sandymount to Sandfly Bay Track is home to nesting Yellow Eyed Penguins/ Hoiho. If you spot a penguin crouch down and try to remain hidden. To Yellow Eyed Penguins we look like scary predators and we don’t want to scare them away from their nests.
Don’t leave valuables in the car because vehicles have been broken into.
