The South Dunedin Community Pop-Up opened on Friday, 8 September 2017.
The Pop-Up, located at 199 Hillside Road, will provide a range of DCC services to the South Dunedin community. These include community development support services, customer service facilities to make enquiries, payments and purchase rubbish bags, library services which include around 2000 books and access to the library catalogue and digital collections.
There will also be community noticeboards, free Gig wifi, public computers with internet access, public photocopying facilities, a small meeting room and an open meeting space.
The Pop-Up will be open for 25 hours each week from Tuesday to Saturday.
|Tuesday||11am - 4pm|
|Wednesday||11am - 5.30pm|
|Thursday||11am - 4pm|
|Friday||11am - 5.30pm|
|Saturday||10am - 12pm|
From opening day the Community Pop-Up will have a weekly JP service (every Tuesday 11am - 1pm) and a community ‘hot desk’ where members of local community groups can be based in the facility for a week or two at a time to promote their activities and services.
The project team developing the space has included Aroha Novak who has provided artistic input including a distinctive tukutuku panel design for the carpet floor tiles, a heritage wall panel and the display of works by local artists in the facility.
The space used for the Community Pop-Up facility will also be jointly used by three community housie groups that will continue to operate on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as Saturday afternoon and evening.
The Pop-Up will also provide a focal point for the community to provide feedback and input into the development of the permanent South Dunedin Community Hub.
It is intended that the Pop-Up facility will remain in place for about two years during the development of the permanent hub.
