Tomahawk/Ocean Grove community centre

The DCC wants to work with the Tomahawk/Ocean Grove community to develop one sustainable, multi-use community facility.

Ocean Grove Recreation Hall

February 2019 Update

Dunedin City Council staff met with the Ocean Grove community in October 2018 to let people know what was proposed for the three sites.

The Ocean Grove Recreation Hall (Grants Braes Football Club) will be developed into a multi-purpose community centre. A steering committee will be formed to drive the project and engage with the wider community.

The Tomahawk School building will be demolished in early 2019 and the DCC will stop investing in the Ocean Grove Domain Hall as it has numerous structural and flooding issues. Community engagement about future development of both sites is planned for later in 2019.

October 2018 Update

Tomahawk and Ocean Grove facilities’ future discussed

In mid-October 2018 the DCC presented Tomahawk/Ocean Grove residents with a proposal for the future of three DCC-owned properties in their community ‑ the old Tomahawk School, the Ocean Grove Domain Hall and the Ocean Grove Recreation Hall (also known as Grants Braes Football Club).

The concept is to develop one sustainable, multi-use, and fit for purpose community facility at Tomahawk/Ocean Grove. We would like the community’s input to make sure the facility will meet residents’ needs.

DCC proposal

That Ocean Grove Recreation Hall be developed as a sustainable, multi-use, fit-for-purpose community facility

No DCC funding is currently allocated for development of the Ocean Grove Recreation Hall.

Any request for funding would require Council approval as part of the 2019-2020 Annual Plan process.
