Mike Lord was first elected to the Dunedin City Council in 2013 and re-elected in 2016. Mike is the Chairperson of the Finance and Council Controlled Organisations Committee. He is also the Council appointed Trustee for the DCC owned property Hereweka Harbour Cone; Council appointed member of the Dunedin Public Art Gallery Committee and the Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board.
Mike was born in Oamaru in 1964 and it was there he learned to love Otago. He attended St Kevin's College until 1980 and then he entered the work force to gain his education.
Mike moved to the Taieri Plains in 1988 the same year he married his wife Philippa. He and Philippa have four adult children. Together they have lived and worked on the Taieri for the last twenty five years. They purchased their farm in 2001 and in 2009 they employed a sharemilker to run the farm.
Mike led the Otago branch of Federated Farmers as Provincial President for three years until 2012. It was during this time that Mike developed an interest in Local Body politics which led him to contest a seat on the Mosgiel Taieri Ward in the 2013 Local Body Elections.
Mike is also a keen Rotarian.
In his spare time he loves holidaying in Wanaka with his family, he also enjoys fishing and hunting.
Mike is proud to have been elected to the Dunedin City Council and represent the views of his local community over the coming 3 years.
