Ways to Provide Spoken Feedback Survey

This survey provided feedback on the preference of providing verbal/oral feedback on Council issues and the ways in which people would provide it, such as at workshops, community events or online chat rooms. Results will be used to guide DCC community engagement, ensuring that, where appropriate, there are a variety of ways for the community to provide spoken feedback on issues that affect them.

Some of the key findings were:

  • Almost two-thirds of the panellists (65%) indicated that verbal/oral feedback is not one of their preferred options for providing feedback on Dunedin City Council issues.
  • There was a strong preference for face-to-face or informal personal feedback.
    • A majority of the panellists (56%) indicated that drop-in sessions at local venues would be a preferred medium of providing verbal/oral feedback.
    • Almost half of the panellists (44%) indicated that informal hearings, where written submissions are not required, would be a preferred medium of providing verbal/oral feedback.
  • The panellists responded less favourably to suggestions of formal events where feedback could be given.
    • Almost half of the panellists (41%) indicated public meetings or workshops would be a preferred medium of providing verbal/oral feedback.
    • More than a quarter of the panellists (28%) indicated that holding community events at public venues, such as the Octagon or the Farmer’s Market, would be a preferred medium of providing verbal/oral feedback.
    • More than a quarter of the panellists (28%) indicated that formal hearings with written submissions would be a preferred medium of providing verbal/oral feedback
  • There was less preference for online methods of providing verbal/oral feedback.
    • A quarter of the panellists (26%) indicated that online chat room would be a preferred medium of providing verbal/oral feedback.
    • A small minority of panellists (12%) indicated that submissions of online videos through social media would be a preferred medium of providing verbal/oral feedback.
