We’re making some changes to parking in two inner-city areas – on SH1 and nearby streets around the University of Otago, and in Vogel and Water Streets in the Warehouse Precinct. We’re introducing changes in time limits and a new fee structure, which are designed to encourage parking turnover.
The changes were suggested by our recent parking survey when residents told us about key issues, what’s working well and what can be improved.
We’re encouraging motorists to use the Pay My Park app to pay for parking spaces. DCC has also provided a tool called Smart Travel to help people share travel and parking costs with others. Download the app and register at www.smarttravel.org.nz
SH1 and nearby streets
The parking changes in this area aim to help people find a park when visiting the University of Otago, Dunedin Hospital or Otago Museum.
The $1 per hour charging zone will be extended two blocks north along the state highway to, and including, the south side of Dundas Street. This will replace the current parking arrangements. Short duration parking (P180) will move to St David Street and longer duration parking will be located on the one-way pairs (SH1).
The existing charging rates for parks closer to Otago Museum will remain unchanged, but time restrictions will be reduced from P240 to P180.
Vogel and Water Streets
Parks in Vogel and Water Streets will be changed to $1 per hour with a P120 time restriction and the P5 and P30 spaces will remain without a charge. These changes are also to encourage parking turnover and better provide for visitors and customers in this changing area.
