Bin size swaps

When can I swap my new green-lidded and red-lidded bin sizes and what are the options?
Between 1 February and 30 April 2025 householders can swap their new green-lidded and red-lidded DCC kerbside bin sizes for free if you’ve found the ones that we delivered don’t suit your household.
After 30 April 2025 there will be a charge for changing green- and red-lidded bin sizes, as with the yellow-lidded mixed recycling bin now.
Please contact DCC Customer Services if you want to swap:
- your 140-litre green-lidded food and garden waste wheelie bin for a green-lidded 25-litre green-lidded bin, or vice versa.
- your new 140-litre red-lidded rubbish bin for an 80-litre red-lidded rubbish bin. We don’t offer a larger rubbish bin because our service aims to reduce waste to landfill.
The DCC property rates charge for kerbside collection will remain the same because it pays for the cost of collection and not the bin size.
-
Can I get a bigger rubbish bin or an extra red-lidded bin?
No, you can’t ask for larger or extra DCC red-lidded rubbish bins. We won’t supply a rubbish bin larger than 140L because our service aims to reduce waste to landfill.
-
Will the DCC rates charge on my property change if I ask for different sized DCC bins?
The DCC targeted rates charge for kerbside recycling and rubbish collection will stay the same no matter what sized DCC bins you have, because your rates pay for the collection service, not the bins themselves. Please note that rates charges are likely to change.

What happens if I want to swap bin size after 30 April 2025?
If you want to swap green- or red-lidded bin sizes after 30 April 2025 when the bin swap period ends, it won’t be free. You will have to pay delivery and handling costs, just as you would now if you wanted to swap yellow-lidded mixed recycling bin size.
